A glass “jewel box” for UNC’s School of Media and Journalism, adding nearly 13,000 square feet to Carroll Hall along a busy campus walk.
The three-story annex houses a broadcast studio, a podcast studio, a maker-space and four classrooms. The ground-floor studio sits behind a full-height wall of sound-insulating glass, putting the school’s work on view to everyone passing by.
The building is designed to stay flexible as teaching and production evolve. Sixty rooftop solar panels, funded by a student group, supply about 40 percent of its energy.
