Brattle Branch Residence

A modern home on one of the steepest lots near Chapel Hill’s town center, looking out over UNC’s Battle Park and Botanical Garden.

The clients wanted room for their art, the outdoors and entertaining, including a music and listening space and long gallery walls. The home respects its neighborhood by matching the scale and façade line of the homes beside it and building in a handmade black brick.

A steel pedestrian bridge crosses a planted entry court into the upper level, where the gallery carries circulation through the home. The double-height kitchen, dining and living space opens onto a terrace with a pool, seating and dining, all facing the forested park beyond.
